When you're looking for homes for sale in Pinellas County -- locations like Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Crystal Beach, Ozona or Dunedin -- you'll be amazed at all the things there are to do and see. Besides the natural beauty of the landscape and the ocean, the area offers much in the way of arts and entertainment. The Pinellas Trail System One of the most intriguing features in the county is the Pinellas Trail System. It was the brainchild of a man whose child was killed while riding a bike. He received some help from the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Bicycle Advisory Committee, who were bicycle enthusiasts. That committee, in conjunction with the Pedestrian Safety Committee, joined forces with him to find a safe place for bicycle riding, strolling or jogging. There was another issue before the Safety Committee, and that was what to do with an old 34-mile stretch of abandoned CSX railroad right-of-way. One issue was to become the answer to the other. The vision was seven years in the making, but in 1990 the first 5-mile section of the Pinellas Trail opened. It connected Taylor Park in Largo to Seminole Park in Seminole. It became so popular that a Penny for Pinellas sales tax financed the rest of the Trail connecting the county from one end to the other. It is estimated that more than 90,000 use the Trail each month. Along the Trail you'll find parks and plenty of green spaces that support live oaks draped in Spanish moss, quiet waterways and many species of land and water birds. You'll also be in close proximity to restaurants, rest stops, and residential neighborhoods. Along the 34 miles are eight overpasses that keep Trail-goers safe from busy intersections. The Trail is patrolled by the Pinellas County Security Task Force, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Pinellas County Park Rangers, as well as various municipal law enforcement agencies. Out and About In an area blessed with gorgeous beaches, there are plenty of water activities such as kayaking, windsurfing, jet and water skiing, swimming, and fishing. Many other communities in the area join Clearwater in offering natural adventures in pristine parks, golfing, plenty of shopping at very unique boutiques, and fine dining. The Richard B. Baumgardner Center for the Performing Arts is located in Clearwater. It is convenient to all Tampa Bay communities and serves a five-county area. The center seats 2,180 for concerts, recitals, plays and special events. Annually, 200 events are presented by the center, which is also rented by community groups and nationally-recognized arts organizations, including The Florida Orchestra. The Ruth Eckerd Hall at the Center was nominated as one of the top five concert halls in the United States. The Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg has the only comprehensive art collection on Florida’s West Coast. It features a variety of objects d’art, including items from antiquity to present day works of art. There are fairs galore in Pinellas County. For example, you can attend the Tampa Bay Caribbean Carnival for a day of fun, music and marvelous food. Or, if you're curious about the value of your great-aunt's table, get it appraised at the Antique Appraisal Fair. There is something for everyone in the beautiful Suncoast.
