Crystal Beach - History Crystal Beach, FL is a quaint and charming oceanfront community that has its own zip code, but none of the residents have mailboxes! This community has about 1,200 people who enjoy living where there are still homes reminiscent of Old Florida. Some of the streets are still unpaved but covered with white seashells. The trees here are covered in Spanish moss and mighty oaks drape their moss-laiden boughs over the roadways. There is no downtown here because the heart of the city lies within the residents.
Crystal Beach FL was originally a fishing village, but a transformation took place in 1912, at which point it officially became a vacation village. It has grown since then, but still holds its own as an unincorporated part of Palm Harbor in Pinellas County. Crystal Beach - Today Lying just south of Tarpon Springs, north of Ozona and Dunedin, the famous Pinellas Trail runs through the community. This 34-mile trail is now used by over 90,000 bicyclists, runners, walkers and roller bladers. It was originally the Orange Belt Railway which connected Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. Plans are in the works to create a Pinellas Trail Loop to connect East Lake Tarpon to downtown St. Petersburg. Along the Trail, there are bike racks for people to be able to park their bicycles while they enjoy refreshments offered for sale along the way, or while they dine in some of the restaurants, or perhaps just to enjoy some of the parks. The trail also runs past the causeway to Honeymoon Island. From there, a ferry can take you to Caladesi Island which has recently been voted as the #1 beach in the country.
